People with developmental disabilities are four to ten times more likely to be victims of crime than other people.  By the very nature of their disability,
many often rely on the assistance of others. Merely by their reliance on such support, predators and abusers  view them as powerless and easy targets.

The Arc of Aurora, Colorado, in partnership with The Arc of United States, will present a special training on August 14 at The Fountains Banquet and
Conference Center in Carmel, Indiana, about the important issue of recognizing and responding to the victimization of people with developmental disabilities.

Recognizing and Responding to the Vulnerability Trail for People with Developmental Disabilities will provide information and support
to local chapters of The Arc, service providers, and advocates to help people with developmental disabilities who are victims of crime
receive comprehensive, quality services and be afforded fundamental rights.

The training will focus on:
¨
the incidence, prevalence and impact of crime victimization, including child abuse, stalking, domestic violence, dating violence and sexual violence.

¨ collaborating with victims assistance organizations.  Participants will gain a better  understanding of how crime victimization of people with
developmental disabilities, combined with information on how to network and collaborate at the local level, will help seed state and local initiatives to
combat  the victimization of people with developmental disabilities.

Following the training, follow-up support will be offered to attendees on post-training opportunities and outreach.

To attend, please complete and return the registration form and $20 registration fee per person by Friday, August 8, 2008 to:
