A View into WIOA & Career Counseling Information and Referral Services Sessions

Listen in to learn about Career Counseling Information and Referral Services (CCIR) Sessions that will be conducted across the state to help people with disabilities who are receiving a sub-minimum wage learn about employment options.  Michelle sat down with The Arc’s Jill Smith, Consumer Supports Grants Administrator; and Melody Cooper, Self-Advocate Specialist, to talk about the sessions.

Reforms passed by Congress in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), require individuals receiving a sub-minimum wage to have the opportunity to prepare for, obtain, maintain, advance in, or regain competitive integrated employment, including supported or customized employment.  The reforms also require that individuals be informed of these opportunities.  In response, local VR offices and staff from The Arc of Indiana have begun to contact providers who offer employment at a sub-minimum wage (known as 14(c) entities) to schedule Career Counseling & Information and Referral Services (CCIR) sessions for individuals employed at subminimum wage
